CITRACCO, the Pilot Project

Agentschap WebsiteCurrently, a pilot project to demonstrate the technological capabilities has been prepared. The actual circulation of 30 Cargobox units during a period of 12 – 16 weeks will be followed by larger scale pilot projects. Together these trials will enable collection of in-practice experience and fine-tuning of the overall system.

The main objective of the Pilot Project is to demonstrate all features and advantages of the innovative conveyance unit. The final report must contain fair conclusions and clearly identify advantages versus possible disadvantages when compared to current logistic handling practices. A qualification of the obtainable safety improvements and potential cost savings based on practical experience will be the major decisive factor for the intended large-scale market introduction. It is anticipated that overall cost savings of up to 5 – 15% (direct and indirect) are within reach.

Amsterdam 195x130Experts in the Logistics Industry are convinced that, due to an average growth figure of 6.4% annually and a constant pressure on yields, standardizing air cargo containerization is an inevitable process. Since it is expected that Regulatory Authorities will endorse the System, it is feasible that the Cargobox could become the world standard for multi-modal D-2-D air cargo shipment, the same way 20- and 40-foot ISO containers became the standard for sea freight transports.
