The Cargobox can be closed and locked with a strip known as the Lockbar, which ensures safe and secure transportation. The Lockbar contains an active RFID tag,GPS and GPRS for interconnection with a Data Information System. This CargoSyst IT System encloses so called Middleware, including a dedicated Messages Switching Platform, enabling each Cargobox to be tracked and traced along its entire journey. It also means it can only be opened using an individually generated Security Code. For inspection purposes, the Cargobox can be opened by a special provision incorporated in this Lockbar. Together, this is what makes the Cargobox an "Intelligent Tamper-free Container".

Security Code

The Cargobox can only be unlocked and opened using a designated one-time Security Code that can be activated after proper authenticiation by the consignee. The Cargobox enables real time tracking and tracing with locked and secured transportation of its content. Goods are packed and stowed in the Cargobox upon completion at the end of the shippers' production line. The Cargobox can also be close and locked with a hand-held PDA and then starts to travel without being opened in any intermediate stage during travel or cross-dock storage. Each unwanted intervention triggers an alarm signal and alert message which makes it virtually impossible to add (i.e. explosives) to, or withdraw from its content.

Electro-mechanical lock

The Lockbar contains an electro-mechanical lock in combination with a memory chip and an RFID tag, which can be activated with a PDA. Decent authorization and a randomly generated invisible Security Code are required for closure and opening of the Cargobox. All information regarding content, destination, AWB number and nature of the goods can be automatically (reading Bar-code labels and/or passive RFID tags) obtained with the PDA, a wireless device connected with the computer system through a wireless local area network (WLAN), but only after authorization of the user. Access to more or less detailed information about a certain shipment is achieved by implementation of multiple security levels. Several sensors are built into the Lockbar for security alarm settings and temperature registration.
